Griffith City Council Welcomes Bonus Roads To Recovery Funding

Tuesday October 21, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Griffith City Council has welcomed news that councils across the country will receive a double injection of roads funding for the 2105-2016 financial year under the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program.

The Roads to Recovery Program funding for 2014 to 2019 includes an additional $350 million provided to councils, state and territory governments around the country in 2015-2016, as announced in the 2014 Budget.

Griffith City Council will receive an annual allocation of $716,363 for 2014-2015, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019; with an allocation of $1,432,725 for 2015-2016.
Griffith’s total program allocation for 2014-2019 is $4,298,177, an increase of $831,463 from the previous five years.

“The additional funding is a huge win, not only for Griffith, but for all councils that have  been granted double allocation for 2015-16, as it provides necessary budgets for our organisations to make significant progress on providing better and safer roads for our community,” said Griffith Mayor John Dal Broi.

Councillor Simon Croce, Chairman of Council’s Transport Committee, said the additional allocation will be primarily be used for the construction of roads on the Northern Heavy Vehicle By-Pass to improve safety and efficiency for the transport of produce around Griffith.

“These construction works on Jones and Lakes Roads, planned for 2015-16 and 2016-17, will reduce heavy vehicle activity within the built-up areas of Griffith,” Cr Croce said.

“The remainder of funds will be put towards the rehabilitation of roads within the Local Road Network, which have fallen below the service level standard.”
