Reservoir Refurbishment Works Pave the Way for Mural

Council is pleased to announce the commencement of refurbishment works on the 9ML drinking water reservoir (tank) opposite Pioneer Park. These essential upgrades, set to start early May 2024, will involve sandblasting and painting, paving the way for the installation of a vibrant mural by acclaimed artist Heesco.
The sandblasting and painting will not compromise the town’s drinking water as the reservoir has been taken offline during this process.
The mural work is scheduled to commence in September 2024, with the themes of water, multiculturalism, agriculture, manufacturing, and Indigenous/First Nations heritage, as determined by Councillors, celebrating Griffith’s diverse community.
The base colour for the reservoir has been carefully selected by Heesco to seamlessly complement his artwork. Heesco is well known for his silo art seen in places such as Weethalle, Gunnedah, Harden Murrumburrah and Grenfell. You can view Heesco’s extensive mural work on his website: www.heesco.com
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said he was pleased to see refurbishment work commencing on the reservoir.
“This process to have the mural painted has taken a little longer than we first anticipated,” Councillor Curran said.
“But I am thrilled that we are now preparing the surface so that Heesco will be able to create a really impactful piece of artwork.
“Residents will have noticed other murals popping up around Griffith in the last week or so. The most recent ones in Yambil and Kooyoo Streets are part of Council's Her Way 2680 project, a collaborative partnership between Transport for NSW and Council. They are absolutely stunning and add to the ones we already have in Banna Lane.
“The addition of the reservoir mural will enhance our existing street art and help boost tourism.”
