Dump for Free Weekend September 13 & 14

Wednesday August 20, 2014

Local residents have the opportunity to offload waste from their homes and yards when Griffith City Council hosts its second ‘Dump for Free’ weekend in 2014.

The popular Dump for Free weekend will be held from 8am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday September 13 and 14 at the Tharbogang Waste Management Centre and from 8am to 5pm on Sunday, September 14 at the Yenda Waste Management Centre.

"Council’s Dump for Free program is held twice a year and has been very successful since it was introduced two years ago,’’ said John Roser, Council’s Waste Operations Manager. "The program allows residents to dispose of their bulky waste for free. General domestic waste can include garden rubbish, mixed recyclables and general waste. The weight per household is capped at 2 standard loads, which is the equivalent of a ute/car and trailer combo, or just a ute or car load," Mr Roser added.

The Dump For Free initiative has also helped addressed the issue of illegal dumping throughout the Local Government Area.

Mr Roser said the Yenda Rotary Club has offered this year to provide a collection service for elderly or infirm Yenda residents who are unable to take advantage of this initiative. Yenda residents wishing to access this service can contact the Yenda Rotary Club on 69681182 or 0429 444 184 no later than Wednesday, September 10.

It is important to note that asbestos or hazardous materials will not be accepted during the Dump For Free weekend and that a limit of 8 tyres per load will be allowed. For more information on the Dump For Free program, please contact Council on 6962 8100.
