Thursday December 18, 2014

Griffith City Council’s Australia Day Committee is delighted to announce internationally renowned chef Lyndey Milan OAM as Griffith’s Australia Day Ambassador for January 26, 2015.

Chairperson Councillor Christine Stead said the committee is excited to welcome Lyndey back to Griffith following her stint as a guest of La Festa in previous years.

“We are pleased to host Lyndey as our Australia Day Ambassador and we hope she enjoys experiencing Griffith’s vibrant restaurant and food culture again,” Councillor Stead said.

Lyndey was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2014 for her services to the hospitality, food and wine industries. An author of 9 books, Lyndey is a home-cook hero and a familiar face on morning TV shows as well as host of her own shows on various networks. Her profile also extends throughout the world as she has worked with other famous international chefs such as Rick Stein, Gordon Ramsey and Jamie Oliver.

The 2015 Australia Day event will be held at Woodside Hall at the Griffith Showgrounds. Following a 7am traditional Australia Day Breakfast at Pioneer Park Museum, the Citizenship Ceremony and Australia Day Awards will be hosted at Woodside Hall.

The Griffith City Band will provide entertainment while the Griffith Branch of Soroptimist International will serve a morning tea to welcome Griffith’s newest citizens and award winners.

“We encourage all community members to attend the breakfast and ceremony and embrace what Australia Day is all about,” Councillor Stead said. “Nominations for the Australia Day Awards are open until Friday December 19 and we hope people will take advantage of this last minute opportunity to nominate residents in the community who donate their time selflessly to help others.”
