Tuesday August 12, 2014

Griffith City Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Graham Gordon to the position of Director Utilities, effective Monday August 18, succeeding David Tull who retired in July after 27 years of service.

Mr Gordon, who has been Council’s Engineering Design & Approvals Manager for the past 7 years, has the winning combination of experience, knowledge and vision, according to Mayor John Dal Broi.

“We are delighted to be able to promote the talent from within Council when the merit allows us to and it was evident that Graham’s development of skills and experience, and his strong grasp of corporate knowledge of Council, put him in good stead for this very important role,” Mayor Dal Broi said.

General Manager Brett Stonestreet said Mr Gordon’s working knowledge of the local community and his engineering expertise would enable him to make an immediate impact in the role.

Mr Stonestreet also thanked Steve Oosthuysen, Council’s Water & Sewer Operations Engineer, who has been acting Utilities Director for the past several weeks.

“Steve is a highly respected member of the team and I look forward to his continued contributions to achieving Council's objectives as we welcome Graham to the role,” Mr Stonestreet said.

Mr Gordon began his career at Griffith City Council as Engineering Assistant/Design Draftsman in June 1995. Since then he has taken on the roles of Development Engineer, Development Services Coordinator, and Engineering Design & Approvals Manager.

“Since I commenced work at Griffith City Council I have been grateful for the career advances that have allowed me to develop my engineering skills and knowledge in Local Government,” Mr Gordon said. “I look forward to this exciting challenge that will enable me to continue working with Council and the community to provide the essential services that are important to the growth and wellbeing of Griffith and the region.”

Mr Gordon graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Technology Degree, majoring in Civil Engineering and Management. He worked with private engineering consultants PPK and Calare Civil in Bathurst before joining Griffith City Council in 1995.

Mr Gordon is married to Nicola Gordon and they have 3 children. He enjoys playing soccer and golf, going camping, and spending time with family and friends.
