Griffith's Australia Day Award Winners Announced

Congratulations to Pat Sergi who has been named Griffith’s Australia Day Citizen of the Year.
Mr Sergi was presented with the top Australia Day honour on Friday, 26 January 2024 during the official ceremony, held at the Griffith Regional Theatre.
He received the accolade for his tireless fundraising efforts for worthy causes including Griffith Can Assist, Griffith Base Hospital, Scalabrini Aged Care Service and the Yenda Retirement Village.
Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran congratulated Mr Sergi and the other award recipients. He also acknowledged the 26 new citizens.
“On behalf of the Griffith community, I want to congratulate Pat for his tireless work, all of the other extremely worthy winners and all of the nominees in every category. It is individuals such as these that devote time and effort to our community to make Griffith a better place to live,” Councillor Curran said.
“The efforts made by these individuals to volunteer, to lead, to excel in sports and educate or inspire the community is to be commended.”
Winners of the 2023 Griffith Australia Day awards:
  • Citizen of the Year – Pat Sergi
  • Junior Citizen of the Year – Madisyn Sarkis
  • Community Project of the Year - Griffith It Takes Two - Series 5
  • Local Hero Award – Sophie Bozic
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year – Timeeka Coleman
  • Sports Team of the Year – Murrumbidgee Regional High School 16’s Rugby Union Team  
  • Senior Sportsperson of the Year – Jack Evans
  • Clubperson of the Year – Bernie Connolly
  • Overall Sportsperson of the Year – Timeeka Coleman
  • Environmental Citizen of the Year  – Ema Munro
“We thank and congratulate everyone who was nominated for this year’s Australia Day awards,” said Councillor Curran.  
“I would also like to thank those in our community who took the time to complete the nomination form to ensure these residents could be acknowledged today.”
