Community Input Sought for Proposed Speed Changes in Griffith Local Government Area

Thursday August 14, 2014

Griffith City Council is currently reviewing proposed changes to several speed limits in the local area proposed by NSW Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) as part of the agency’s efforts to ensure motorist safety and to better suit the environment of the roads involved.

Council is now asking residents to review the proposed changes and provide feedback that will be presented to Council’s Traffic Committee at its September 9 meeting.

The proposed speed changes include:

  • Decreasing the existing speed limit from 100km/h to 80km/h on Rankins Springs Road from Whybrow Street to Rifle Range Road. A total distance of 3.3km.
  • Increasing the existing speed limit from 50km/h to 60km/h along Wakaden Street from Whybrow Street to the Blumer Avenue roundabout. A total distance of 1.6km.
  • Increasing the existing speed limit from 50km/h to 60km/h along Walla Avenue from the Watson Road/Spence Road roundabout to Mansell Road. A total distance of 1.3km.

“As part of our ongoing consultation efforts with the community, Council and RMS ask that residents review the speed changes as proposed by RMS and provide any input that can to be taken into consideration,” said Greg Balind, Road Safety Officer with Griffith City Council.

“RMS has also proposed to shorten the current length of the 50km/h zone through the Beelbangera village by 300 metres extending to the south (towards Griffith) based on complaints received about the length. Additionally, Council will propose a decrease of the speed limit of 100km/h along Calabria Road from Citrus Road to Rankins Springs Road,” Mr Balind added.

Residents who would like to make submissions can do so by clicking on an email link on the following Council web page:
