GRIFFITH CITY COUNCIL EXPANDS DUMP FOR FREE EVENT TO A FULL MONTH

Griffith City Council is pleased to announce the extension of its highly popular Dump for Free weekend to an entire month.
Dump for Free offers a fantastic opportunity for residents to declutter their homes, sheds and gardens, allowing them to dispose of household waste at no cost throughout October.
Dump for Free Month will kick off on Saturday, 30 September 2023 and run until Sunday, 29 October 2023.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said Dump for Free Month gives residents greater flexibility as well as cost savings for Council.
“The weekends have always been a massive success, with close to 1200 residents using the Tharbogang and Yenda service over one weekend this time last year,” said Councillor Curran.
“Instead of having everyone head out all at once we hope that people will take advantage of the free entry at the Tharbogang and Yenda facilities throughout the month. The dates we’ve chosen allow five weekends and four full weeks for the event.
“We have been looking for ways to improve this free service whilst also being very mindful of costs, especially when we are talking to the community about a Special Rate Variation (SRV). This change reduces costs whilst offering a more flexible service, it’s a true win-win outcome I feel. We will see how this goes and what feedback we receive.”
Council's Waste Operations Manager, John Roser advised that general domestic waste, including garden debris and mixed recyclables, is eligible for disposal.
“Each household can dispose of up to two standard loads, with a maximum of four car tyres per load. Commercial or agricultural tyres will not be accepted,” he said.
“A standard load is equivalent to a car and trailer combination or a single car or ute load. It is important to note that asbestos and other hazardous waste will not be accepted during this period.”
Residents are also encouraged to utilise the free Community Recycling Centre (CRC) situated at the Tharbogang Waste Management Facility. The CRC serves as a permanent drop-off location for common household problem wastes that cannot be collected through Council kerbside waste and recycling collection services. Accepted items at the CRC include paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, motor oils, other oils, car and household batteries, smoke detectors and fluorescent globes/tubes.
The Tharbogang Waste Management Centre will be open from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week throughout this Dump for Free event. The Yenda Centre will be open 1pm to 5pm on Sundays.
