Tuesday July 22, 2014

Griffith is preparing for an influx of tourism operators this weekend as Griffith City Council’s Tourism team hosts the Inland Tourism Awards on Saturday night, with pre-dinner drinks at The Brett Naseby Gallery followed by dinner at the Exies.

This is the first time Griffith has hosted this annual regional award, which acknowledges excellence in tourism in the four regional NSW areas; Central, Inland, Murray and Riverina.

“One of the priorities of the awards is to lift the professional standard of tourism experiences and to develop quality and professional development within the industry,” said Greg Lawrence, Manager Tourism & Economic Development at Griffith City Council.

The gala event is titled A Gondola Journey Masquerade Party and the evening is expected to be a wonderful Griffith showcase. The event has attracted guests from across the state from Boggabri to Broken Hill, Orange to Tamworth and Sydney to Echuca, with many people never having visited the region before.

“We are excited and proud to showcase local product, wines, our story and the area to our visitors. The showcase has been made possible with the generous support of our operators who have contributed local product to make the evening a great success,” Mr Lawrence added. “We are also most grateful to Don Hillam and Heath Neville who have been wonderful supporters of this event and transformed Crystal Arcade into Little Venice, creating a perfect pre-dinner drinks setting. How fortunate we are to be part of such a wonderful community.”

There are two Griffith finalists in the awards being held this Saturday:

  • Griffith Visitor Information Centre (Visitor Information & Services), and
  • La Festa (Festivals & Events)
