Media Release - Community Grants Program

Griffith City Council will be opening its annual Community Grants Program in March and is encouraging interested community groups to attend a free grant writing workshop on Monday 9 March 2015.

In 2014, Council provided grant funding to a number of local organisations including Ningana Enterprises, Youth off the Streets, Meals of Wheels, Southern Riverina Youth Support Services, Yenda Diggers Club, Griffith PCYC, Griffith Shed for Men, Soroptomist International, Griffith Post School Options, Griffith War Memorial Museum and Rotary Club of Griffith Avanti.

Council’s Community Development Coordinator Peta Dummett said the number of applications received for the last round of funding was above expectations.

“Due to the high volume and quality of applications, it was a very competitive round,” said Ms Dummett. “This meant that all applications were closely scrutinised against the assessment criteria. We recognise that for some community groups, writing grants can be difficult which is why we are offering this free grant writing workshop in partnership with Regional Development Australia.”

The Community Grant Policy was updated during 2014 in order to refine the assessment criteria and align it with Council’s strategic plan, Growing Griffith 2030.

“Council is seeking applications for projects which demonstrate new initiatives and deliver achievable and successful outcomes for the community,” added Ms Dummett.

The Grant Writing Workshop will be held at the Rural Fire Service in Wakaden Street, 9 March at 5.30pm and is open to all community groups and individuals who would like to learn or improve their grant writing skills.

“The skills and tricks you will learn may assist you in completing a more successful application, not only for Council’s Community Grants Program but also with other funding sources. During the workshop we will be outlining what other funding opportunities may be available,” Ms Dummett added.
