State Of Our City Presented To New Council

Griffith City Council has published its State of Our City Report, showcasing outcomes and service delivery over the last Council term.

In line with the NSW Government’s Integrated Planning and Reporting legislation, Council is required to present this report to the second meeting of the newly elected Council for review. The Report offers a comprehensive summary of progress in implementing the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) and reflects on social, environmental, economic, and civic leadership goals since its adoption in March 2022.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran, said the Report will be a valuable resource for new Councillors.

"Previously called the End of Term Report, this document is now known as the State of Our City. I hope it proves useful to new Councillors as they gain insight into how we are realising our community’s aspirations,” Councillor Curran said.

As part of the ordinary election year requirements, Council will incorporate the State of Our City Report in its Annual Report set to go to Council later this month.

Key outcomes from the State of Our City Report 2022-2024 include:

• Enhancement to sports facilities in the city, including upgrades to the Griffith Regional Sports Centre, the addition of a 50m outdoor pool at the Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre and new amenities at Jubilee Oval.
• The crucial need for affordable housing in Griffith has been addressed through a collaboration with Argyle Housing on the Griffin Green Affordable Housing Project and other initiatives.
• Significant progress has been made in enhancing road infrastructure, including progress on the Griffith Southern Industrial Link, upgrades to Boorga and Dickie Roads, and phases of the Yambil and Kooyoo Streets redevelopments.
• Community health and well-being has been promoted through the construction of the bicycle pump track and new mountain bike track.
• Upgrades to parks such as Borland Leckie Park and Wood Park have also enhanced recreational spaces for residents, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
• The Her Way 2680 project addressed public safety and involved considerable community consultation and engagement. This project saw the construction of two new footbridges, footpaths, installation of lighting, upgrade to Don Best Park, new wayfinding signage, two new smart bus shelters with wireless phone charging and solar capabilities.

Community and economic indicators are also outlined in the Report, showing progress and performance trends for the Griffith Local Government Area.
