Griffith City Council has extended the deadline for nominations for the 2024 Griffith Australia Day Awards, giving the community more time to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary individuals who make Griffith a better place to live.

The nomination period, initially set to close this week, has been extended to 6 December 2024 due to fewer submissions than anticipated being received.

Griffith City Council’s Community Development Coordinator, Melissa Canzian is encouraging everyone to take this opportunity to acknowledge those who go above and beyond for our community.

“Do you know someone who deserves to be recognised for their contribution to our community? Whether they’re a dedicated volunteer, a mentor, or someone who makes a difference in everyday life, this is your chance to shine a spotlight on their efforts,” she said.

The Griffith Australia Day Awards categories are:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year (Nominees must be under 25 years as at 26 January 2025)
  • Environmental Citizen of the Year
  • Young Environmental Citizen of the Year
  • Community Project of the Year
  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year
  • Sports Team of the Year
  • Club Person of the Year

Submissions close 6 December 2024, so don’t miss this chance to celebrate the unsung heroes of our community.
