Griffith City Council has planted 18 new Platanus x acerifolia trees, also known as Plane Trees along Railway Street, following the removal of ageing Sugar Gums deemed a safety risk in 2024.

The new plantings are part of Council’s commitment to maintaining a safe and attractive streetscape, with the selected species chosen for their suitability, resilience and long-term contribution to the urban environment.

Mayor Doug Curran said the replanting strikes the right balance between public safety and environmental enhancement.

“These new trees will not only improve the streetscape but ensure a safer environment for everyone who uses this space. The shade these trees will provide in a very short space of time and the improved street scape will enhance the area significantly.”

Council thanks the community for its understanding and support throughout the process.
