Council proudly supports Refugee Week

Griffith City Council reaffirms its strong commitment to inclusion, compassion and belonging through its proud support of Refugee Week 2025 from 15-21 June.
This year’s theme, Finding Freedom: Diversity in Community, invites all Australians to reflect on the importance of freedom and the strength we draw from our diverse and inclusive communities. As a registered Refugee Welcome Zone through the Refugee Council of Australia, Griffith is proud to stand as a place of safety, dignity, and opportunity for those seeking refuge.
As a gesture of our ongoing support, Council has installed Refugee Welcome signs at key city entrances, providing a visible statement of our shared values of respect and diversity.
Council also proudly endorses the Back Your Neighbour Campaign, a national initiative advocating for the rights and dignity of refugees and people seeking asylum.
To mark Refugee Week, Council will host a Citizenship Ceremony, celebrating the newest members of our community. Immediately following the ceremony, the community is invited to attend a special movie night hosted by Rural Australians for Refugees Griffith, at the Griffith Regional Theatre on Thursday 19 June, commencing at 6.30pm.
The feature film, The Good Lie, follows the harrowing yet hopeful journey of four refugees who are resettled in the United States after fleeing civil war, offering a powerful reflection on resilience, displacement and the transformative power of community, themes that deeply resonate with the spirit of Refugee Week.
Tickets are $20, which includes pizza on arrival, and can be purchased by visiting the Griffith Regional Theatre Box Office, calling 6962 8444 or purchase online at griffithregionaltheatre.com.au
Griffith City Council invites the entire community to join in celebrating Refugee Week, an opportunity to reflect, learn, and celebrate the stories and resilience of refugees across the globe, and within our own community.
