GRIFFIN GREEN PROJECT REACHES SIGNIFICANT CONSTRUCTION MILESTONE & FUNDING FOR YOUTH

The Griffin Green affordable housing project, a joint initiative between Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council, is making strides in its mission to provide high-quality, low-cost housing options for key workers within Griffith. The project has now reached a key milestone with its construction phase nearing completion. This significant accomplishment marks the start of the next step in creating much-needed affordable housing solutions for those in need.
The ambitious $12 million project is set to deliver 20 new Affordable Housing units, owned and managed by Argyle Housing. In addition, the project includes plans for the sale of 42 lots of vacant land. Not only will this increase the supply of land opportunities for Griffith residents to acquire properties, but it will also do so in a way which maintains affordability and accessibility.
Griffin Green has been funded by the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund ($6M), Griffith City Council ($3M), and Argyle Housing ($3M).
This project boasts easy access to an array of conveniences including a Community Hub and central green space. These units are specifically designed to house some of Griffith's key workers such as teachers, police officers, nurses, paramedics, baristas, emergency services personnel, minimum wage and award-based positions that every community relies upon to function each and every day.
Carolyn Doherty, CEO of Argyle Housing saying, "We are delighted to reach this new milestone with the Griffin Green affordable housing project. From the outset, one of the key goals was that we want to provide our key workers with purpose-built housing that is also accessible and secure."
According to Ms Doherty, the project's heart lies in its vibrant and diverse community, which will include new affordable housing, and specialised models with support services close by in a new Community Hub. These will enable people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures to achieve positive social and educational outcomes, while also providing modern dwellings that cater to the needs of both current and future tenants.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said, “This is an unbelievably exciting project that Griffith City Council is proud to be a part of. This will benefit our community for many years to come and hopefully be a spring board for similar projects into the future. I am proud of our team that has worked diligently on this in partnership with Argyle Housing and I can’t wait to see the finished product.”
Griffith City Council General Manager, Brett Stonestreet said, “The Griffin Green Affordable Housing Project demonstrates Council’s commitment in partnership with Argyle Housing to make a real difference in addressing the housing shortage in Griffith.”
The final touches are expected to be completed by next summer when the Griffin Green complex fully opens up for occupancy. Expression of Interests are now open on the Argyle Housing website for eligible applicants looking to access this new affordable housing solution within Griffith. $1.479M FOR GRIFFITH YOUTH FROM REGIONAL YOUTH INVESTMENT PROGRAM
Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council have been announced as the recipients of $1.479m in funding from the NSW Government’s ‘Our Region, Our Voice’ Regional Youth Investment Program to develop the green space within Griffin Green. The placemaking green space project is part of the Griffin Green Affordable Housing development and has been designed to improve the connectivity, engagement, and participation of young people by having youth involved directly in the creation of the space.
Carolyn Doherty, CEO of Argyle Housing said, "A key feature of the project is for the youth of Griffith to learn essential life skills, improve wellbeing and engage in work ready workshops."
The project will also focus on providing improved access to services such as mental health support and job training opportunities for young people aged 16-24 years old.
In addition to this, Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council have also designed an outdoor recreation area which will be located adjacent to their existing site at Griffin Green Park. This space will provide an opportunity for young people to engage in outdoor activities such as basketball.
"Hence there will also be ongoing consultation in the engagement of local service providers in the delivery of programs and services to young people from the Community Hub," Ms Doherty said.
Argyle Housing have consulted with the Griffith Local Aboriginal Land Council to co-design project components to ensure they are inclusive and representative of the local community. Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council have a strong and ongoing commitment to the engagement and consultation with Wiradjuri people in Griffith in the delivery of Griffin Green Project, which includes this park precinct.
The ‘Our Region, Our Voice’ Regional Youth Investment Program is set to make a real difference for regional youth communities across NSW by giving them access to new resources that can help them reach their potentials. With this funding injection into Griffith's youth community, it looks like these young people are well on their way towards achieving great things!
