Highway of Lost Hearts Hits the Stage

Griffith Regional Theatre welcomes Bathurst-based production company Lingua Franca in May with their production of “Highway of Lost Hearts”.
Written by Mary Anne Butler, the play stars theatrical powerhouse Kate Smith as Mot, who wakes up one morning to find her heart missing from her chest. She can breathe, she has a pulse, but she feels nothing, so she sets off on a road trip to find her heart.
Theatre Manager Marg Andreazza said this play, about a woman’s search for her heart, is really an allegory for a country that has lost its heart.
“Her journey, down the Highway of Lost Hearts, takes her into the Australian outback, with red dirt landscapes, fire and flood, mountains and murky waters – brought to life through Kate Smith’s remarkable one-woman performance and Mary Anne Butler’s beautiful script,” Ms Andreazza said.
“An exceptional element of this play is that there are also two live musicians on stage, interacting with the actor, and bringing music and adding life to the storyline. Smith and Jones are well known musicians from the NSW Central West and have written original music for the show.”

“We are also very excited that Smith & Jones will be delivering a workshop for musicians and performers, or those that would like to be performers, when they are in Griffith, on the evening of 28 May. This is a great opportunity to brush up on performance skills, and learn some on-stage do’s & don’ts. It is suitable for performers aged 15 and above, and payment for the workshop will include a ticket to the show the next night,” Ms Andreazza said.
