Hanwood Stormwater Pump And Levee
Works on the Hanwood Stormwater Pump & Levee are progressing well with the focus now on the installation of the 1500mm stormwater pipeline and pits on the Hanwood Road/Wilga Street corner and across Wilga Street to connect with the already installed pipeline on the school corner. Kerb and gutter will also be installed along this section of Hanwood Road. Dust suppression measures will continue to be utilised during these works.
Works have commenced on the construction of the pumpstation in Mallee Street which includes electrical works, a concrete slab, the installation of 4 pumps, a covering steel shed and perimeter fencing. The construction of the levee around the perimeter of Leonard Road and Mallee Street has also commenced and is scheduled for completion in June to early July 2024.Final works will involve the reconstruction of the Kidman Way road between Mallee Street and Leonard Road to raise the height of the road to the level of the levee. Road closures during these works will be required. As this project primarily involves underground works, factors such as existing underground services, heavy rains, traffic, etc, all affect the timeframe of the works. Griffith City Council appreciates the residents patience and support during this works which will benefit the entire community.
During these works, Council has also been able to complete additional projects in conjunction with Transport for NSW such as the Hanwood Public School Crossing & Leonard Road culvert upgrade. These projects complemented the Council’s works but did extend the timeframe.
A reminder to all motorists to drive to the conditions, follow the directions of signs and traffic control and allow additional travel time for speed zone variations in place while the project is being completed. Residents will be notified of any updates via letterdrops.
