Griffith Regional Art Gallery is rolling out the red carpet to celebrate 30 years of its iconic National Contemporary Jewellery Collection with a black tie cocktail party on Friday 10 August, 2018.

To mark the occasion McWilliams Family Wines has partnered with the Gallery to make this year’s National Contemporary Jewellery Awards night a truly gala event, with a high fashion and jewellery parade, fine wines, amazing food, DJ and an increased prize pool guaranteeing plenty of incredible jewellery on display.

As well as the finalists from this year’s awards the Gallery will be hosting the exquisite glassworks from Wagga Art Gallery’s 2018 National Emerging Art Glass Prize.

Gallery Coordinator Ray Wholohan said “The National Contemporary Jewellery Awards is our signature event and always brings in amazing pieces of innovative object design using cutting edge techniques and pushing the boundaries of contemporary wearable art. With a bigger prize pool, including a locals only category, we are expecting even more amazing work this year from across Australia.”

But it is not all look and don’t touch. Throughout August and September the Art Gallery is presenting an Object Art Forum, with a host of hands-on workshops for the public to learn new skills in jewellery making including resin casting, polymer clay sculpting, printing and image transfer, wirework and wax casting. The classes cater for everyone from beginners to master classes.

Griffith Regional Gallery Manager, Raina Savage, said “We really want the public to get involved with the National Contemporary Jewellery Awards and celebrate our renowned collection by trying their hand at some new skills. With guidance from our highly skilled artists, who are all leaders in their fields, even the rawest beginner can make their own unique, handcrafted piece of signature jewellery in a fun, relaxed environment.”

Workshops run each weekend between 11 August and 16 September. Full program of workshops and activities available online at Registrations essential.

The National Contemporary Jewellery Awards and National Emerging Art Glass Prize will be on display from Saturday 11 August to Sunday 22 September 2018.

Tickets for the Gala Black Tie Awards Night are $30 and are strictly limited. Tickets can be purchased online or by contacting the Gallery. Visit or call 6962 8338 for more details.
