The Yambil Street upgrade is a signature CBD project which will set the standard for future upgrades and beautification of the Griffith CBD precinct.

The full length of Yambil Street is being upgraded in three stages. Jondaryan Avenue to Kooyoo Street is Stage 1. This will see both sides of Yambil Street refurbished with new water mains, stormwater drainage, road pavement, street lighting, median parking, kerb and gutters, footpaths rebuilt and landscaping.

While Stage 1 has been progressing well to this point, the project has experienced a minor setback, requiring the replacement of some sections of concrete work.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi said he was pleased to be able to report swift action by Council staff means there will be little if any delay to the work.

“Council’s Contractor has commenced building the above ground infrastructure. Unfortunately, we’ve determined that a portion of constructed concrete footpath and driveway is not in accordance with the design specifications provided by Council,” Cr Dal Broi said.

“The Contractor will replace this work, at no cost to Council, during the next week.”

Yambil Street is also set to have smart lighting and modern seating installed, along with the provision for smart services such as parking monitoring, data collection and recharging stations.

At the completion of each stage, the majority of built infrastructure such as road foundation, stormwater, sewer, electricity and telecommunication services will not be in the public eye.  However, road seal, footpath, paving, driveways, kerb and guttering, light poles and pedestrian crossings will be.

“Approximately 70 percent of Stage 1 work has been completed,” Cr Dal Broi said.

“Council and the Contractor will continue to work together to complete Stage 1 by the anticipated completion of 31 May 2019.

“Any changes to this schedule will be communicated through Council’s regular updates.”
