Griffith Regional Art Gallery is gearing-up to celebrate 30 years of its premier art collection, the National Contemporary Jewellery Collection, with a magnificent event to mark the launch of the National Contemporary Jewellery Award (NCJA), 2018.

To celebrate this major milestone, the Gallery is hosting a Black Tie Soiree on Friday the 10 August in partnership with McWilliam’s Family Wines.

The NCJA is a biennial national award with the winning entry being acquired for the collection.

Gallery Coordinator, Ray Wholohan said “In 1988 the Gallery started collecting contemporary jewellery, and the National Contemporary Jewellery Awards were founded to grow the Collection by attracting the best contemporary jewellery artists from across the country.”

“We are really proud of our collection – the only one of its kind in regional NSW,” said Mr Wholohan.

To celebrate the thirtieth anniversary the Gallery has increased and expanded the prize pool.

Gallery Manager, Raina Savage said the major prize had been increased to $6,000 and a new category had been added for local artists.

“The Riverina Area Design Excellence Award category has been added to recognise the huge amount of talent in our region. The winners will be announced at our opening event,” said Ms Savage.

People are urged to get in early for the strictly limited tickets for the Black Tie Soiree on Friday 10 August, 2018.

“This will be one of the biggest cultural events of the year, and an epicurean delight with fine food by In Bocca, plus premium wines and cocktails from the Gallery’s sponsor and co-host McWilliam’s Family Wines,” said Ms Savage.

“There will be smooth beats all evening from DJ Lady Barber, and  an amazing fashion parade showcasing jewellery from our collection matched with fabulous gowns from local fashion houses Lola & Iris and Stomp. Masters of Hair and Boheme Beauty have generously come on board to do the models’ hair and makeup- so it will be a totally glamourous event.”

To further showcase the Riverina as a hub for design excellence the Gallery is also hosting Wagga Wagga Art Gallery’s National Student Art Glass Prize (NSAGP) which feeds their renowned National Art Glass Collection, during the NCJA.

“Visitors to the Gallery will be greeted with a huge display of exquisitely crafted works by Australia’s premier artists and designers.” Said Ms Savage.

“Anyone who loves style, elegance or fine arts and design will love this event.  But tickets are strictly limited and at only $30 per person inclusive of all refreshments and entertainment, they won’t last.”
