WINTER WATER WORKS CARRIED OUT IN STAGES TO ENSURE SUPPLY

Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) will carry out extensive works over the 2019 winter period including more automation, some channel lining and structure upgrades.

The works will be carried out in three stages to ensure there is no impact on the Griffith water supply.

Stage 1, The Lake View Branch Canal (LVBC) expansion project, will be carried out from 21 - 28 June and involves the upgrade of regulators, bridges and escapes.

Stage 2, Golgelderie Branch Canal 2 (GBC2) works, from 15 -19 July, will see the automation of structures escapes and offtakes.

Stage 3, Mirrool Creek Branch Canal (MCBC) works, include the addition of 12 new Flume Gates to the first 12 regulators to improve control of flows, bridge and offtake works and will take place from 25 - 28 July.

Griffith City Council Director Utilities Graham Gordon said it will be business as usual for the City and surrounding villages’ drinking water supply.

Mayor John Dal Broi said, “I’m delighted to say that users will not notice any changes to their water supply.”

“We have ensured there is enough water in Council’s water storage facility, Hayes Lease Reservoir, to supply Griffith while the works are being carried out,” he said.

In the coming weeks locals may notice sections of some channels around the City empty as the maintenance works proceed.
