Yambil Street Upgrade

The Yambil Street Upgrade is a signature CBD project which will set the standard for future upgrades and beautification of the Griffith CBD precinct.

The full length of Yambil Street is being upgraded in 4 stages. Jondaryan Avenue to Kooyoo Street was Stage 1 and was completed November 2019. This stage saw both sides of Yambil Street refurbished with new water mains, stormwater drainage, road pavement, street lighting, median parking, kerb and gutters, footpaths rebuilt and landscaping. Kooyoo Street to Ulong Street was Stage 2 and was completed late September 2020. Stage 3, Ulong Street to Daines Street, had new water mains, stormwater, roadpavement, landscaping and footpaths completed by late January 2022, and streetlights were installed on 13 December 2022. Stage 4, from Daines Street to Kookora Street, is expected to commence late 2023 for completion in 2024.

Bin Collection
From the date of the road closure, 1 December 2020, businesses affected by the northern lane closure will need to put their garbage bins out for collection in Banna Lane (see blue highlighted properties in diagram above).

Yambil Street Stage 2
Construction of Stage 2 was completed on Monday 28 September 2020. Some small areas which have not yet been completed have been closed off with safety fencing while we are awaiting approval from Essential Energy or delivery of an item. Construction of the bus stop area, which was additional to the Stage 2 works, should be commencing soon. Please note the changed driveway conditions in McCook car park (Senior Citizen’s car park) which now has a single entry/exit to Yambil Street. Fencing has been temporarily installed in the McCook car park to help direct pedestrians and cars to the appropriate exit into Yambil Street. Additional works also included the paving of the southern side Ulong Street corner, opposite Leo Franco Motors, which was brought forward due to additional works required in this area for Stage 2.

Please note that the 2hr parking limit is also now in force in Stage 2 and this will be enforced by the Parking Compliance Officer.

Please contact Mrs Vini Agostino, Project Administration Support Officer on 0439 573 671 if you have any enquiries or concerns.

Griffith City Council rolled out the Yambil Street Upgrade (Stage One) in October 2018 as the first project prioritised from the Griffith CBD Strategy.

The Yambil Street Upgrade is an exciting project which will rejuvenate an important street in Griffith's city centre.  The project has replaced aging infrastructure and a deteriorating road pavement and is establishing a street tree boulevard with adequate seating and bins along a new footpath pavement.

The project is fully funded by Griffith City Council, showing a commitment to implement the recommendations listed in the Griffith CBD Strategy.
