Griffith City Pound & Rehoming Centre Rehoming Number (RHN) R251000142.

The Griffith City Pound & Rehoming Centre is managed by Griffith City Council and is open by appointment Monday to Friday.

Griffith City Council promote the responsible ownership of pets and Companion Animals as they are an integral part of our community, culture and society.
Council encourages responsible pet ownership and recommends the consideration of de-sexing of cats and dogs to assist in the reduction of numbers of unwanted cats and dogs.

The Centre is provided as a service to residents in the Local Government Area for lost and missing cats and dogs

The Centre is a state of the art facility designed with the welfare of animals as the main priority and to provide the best care possible to impounded cats and dogs until they are reunited with their owners or rehomed.

The facility was completed during 2017 at a cost of $500,000 which has air conditioning and underfloor heating to protect the animals from extreme weather, and the floors are treated with a sealant to minimise the spread of canine and feline diseases.

The Centre is a safe haven for lost and stray cats and dogs, keeping them protected until their owner (or a new owner) can be found. Fees apply for the release of impounded animals and animals must be registered before release. See our fees and charges here or information on lost and missing animals here.

Owning a pet comes with a range of responsibilities towards the animals, the community and the environment. We encourage all pet owners to care for their animals in a responsible manner with their best welfare in mind. Pet owner responsibilities can be found by clicking here.

We aim to provide the very best of care to lost, abandoned and surrendered animals that come to us for whatever reason. Pet cats and dogs are required by law to be microchipped and registered, it’s important that you make sure your contact details are up to date and correct. Our staff can scan your animal and can update your details free of charge.

Surrendering a pet is always a difficult decision. There are many avenues you can investigate prior to calling Council to Surrender your pet as a last resort. If you have tried all avenues to rehome your pet yourself and are struggling with your pet, please seek help and advice from us and chat with one of our Animal Rehoming Staff about the next steps. Surrenders an animal can only be made by appointment only and if your animal can be assessed and fits the criteria for our rehoming process we may help on your behalf. More information on Rehoming an Animal or Surrendering an Animal can be found by clicking here.

Pet Identification & Lifetime Registration information can be found by clicking here.
