Bagtown

As Bagtown ‘Old Griffith’ was one of the main camps for workers building the channels for the Irrigation Scheme and resultant increased population it was thought an integral part of our history. The Museum was fortunate to obtain Bicentennial grant funding in 1988 to construct an exhibit. Eight buildings that were supply and service shops and a part of ‘Old Griffith’s’ central business district have been recreated and are: Hana’s Bakery; C. Funnell Hairdresser and Newsagent; Jacob’s General Store; Ada Cummings Ladies and Children’s Wear; Married Quarters; Post Office; Tango’s Bar; and Methodist Minister’s Hut. There is a full scale model inside the Post Office of the street of Bagtown.
