Yambil Street - Stage 3 Timed Parking Reinstated

Friday, 22 Oct 2021

Following a recent survey undertaken by Griffith City Council, a decision has been made to reinstate timed two hour parking along the northern side of the Stage 3 works in Yambil Street.

Griffith City Council General Manager, Mr Brett Stonestreet said Council consulted with business owners, with the majority favouring the return of the timed parking immediately.

“Business operators were asked if they would prefer to wait until the conclusion of the Stage 3 works, or if they would prefer an immediate reinstatement of the timed kerbside parking,” said Mr Stonestreet.

“More than 70% favoured the return of timed parking while construction was underway and taking that into consideration, Council will be installing the two hour timed parking signs Saturday 23 October 2021, with restrictions effective Monday 25 October 2021.

“This means that those using Yambil Street should be aware that if they overstay their time, they could attract a Penalty Infringement Notice,” he added.

Griffith City Council has a CBD Traffic Strategy which guides parking restrictions throughout the CBD including Yambil Street.

“The installation of timed parking brings the northern side of Stage 3 into alignment with Stages 1 and 2 of Yambil Street which currently operates under two hour time parking in line with the Strategy,” said Mr Stonestreet.

“The CBD is notoriously busy and parking for customers is a premium which is why Council has constructed a new parking area in Railway Street Griffith, with another to be constructed opposite the Post Office.

“I would encourage business employees to utilise the untimed parking areas in Railway Street as well as in Canal Street to free up parking for customers within the CBD,” he added.

Council has a contractor who regularly undertakes parking inspections throughout the CBD and will be enforcing the timed restrictions.
