Street Scapes Griffith Transforms The Cbd This Spring
Thursday, 25 Aug 2022

Street Scapes is an activation of our city, and for six weeks locals and visitors can enjoy a series of activities, events and activations that invigorate and breathe life back into the City’s street scapes.
Street Scapes will see the Memorial Gardens carpark become an outdoor cultural experience, converting the space into a shared recreational area and will host an array of activities.
The car park will be activated through a pilot program.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said Street Scapes will allow people to experience a larger park footprint, with the focus being on increasing green space in the CBD.
“Street Scapes will take place from 29 August and run for six weeks through until 7 October,” said Councillor Curran.
“Last year saw Kooyoo Street turned into a hive of activity for the very first Street Scapes, which led to the successful grant application to completely transform the space for the benefit of the community. This year we are moving Street Scapes to Memorial Gardens to activate the CBD and I cannot wait to see the space come to life!
“You won’t want to miss out – there is so much happening and we are excited to be including interactive lighting displays this year,” he added.
Along with events and activities, the carpark will be fitted out with additional seating for the community to utilise, a temporary container kiosk with a pop-up café run by local eateries, a wine bar, outdoor markets and the addition of plantings to bring the space to life and encourage residents to get out and about and enjoy Spring in Griffith.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to head to the park and take part in the activities, or just grab a bite to eat from the café and enjoy the atmosphere.
The café and wine bar will be operated by Local businesses including Limone, Cocoa & Bean, Alaina’s Kitchen, Whitton Malt House, Yarran Wines, Lillypilly Wines, Mino & Co, Calabria Wines, De Bortoli Wines, Yenda Beer, Bird nor Beast, and charities.
In addition many local makers, producers and operators selling their wares at the weekly Saturday Twilight Markets, and local performers will be taking to the stage every Friday and Saturday night along with a huge range of activities which will be popping up over the six weeks.
Key events include:
- Street Scapes Open Night
- Unplugged in the Park (Live music every weekend)
- Pop-Up Market Stalls
- Open Mic Night
- Family Night Out (last day of school term)
- Park Choir
- Teddy Bear’s Picnic & Story Time
