Musical Production Team Announced And Performers Wanted! Griffith Regional Theatre is pleased to announce the production team for the upcoming Community Musical The Wedding Singer, due to hit the stage in September, as the call goes out for performers.
Manager of the Theatre, Marg Andreazza said, this hilarious musical comedy, based on the 1998 film, follows the story of wedding singer Robbie Hart, who is dumped at his own wedding altar, and his journey to find love and redemption.
“It’s going to be a fun show with a big cast and we are delighted to have a strong production team ready to get the show going, and we are excited to now offer the opportunity to perform to community members,” said Ms Andreazza.
The production team will be led by Director Katherine Innes. Katherine is a local drama teacher and has extensive experience in acting, teaching and directing theatre productions.  She was Co-Director of the most recent Community Production – Legally Blonde (2019) – as well as Murrumbidgee Regional High School’s productions of Cinderella (2021), and Seussical (2023). She has also been extensively involved in local GRAPA Productions as an actor or part of the production team, including The Crucible (2022), Romeo and Juliet (2021) and Midsummer Night’s Dream (2019). She is passionate about performing arts and particularly looking forward to working on this production.
Ms Innes said she is incredibly excited to bring this fun, dynamic show to the Griffith community. “I'm thrilled to help get the community musical back on its feet after the challenges of the last few years, especially after the fantastic experience I had co-directing Legally Blonde,” she said.
Ms Andreazza said the Theatre is delighted that Katherine will be joined by a team of other experienced people which will ensure the production is a great success.
Assistant Director is Romina Tappi, who locals will know as a theatre performer from her youth, and who has most recently been living in Italy where she was Artistic Director of one of Italy’s largest Theatre in Education companies which included managing several productions, multiple tours, script writing and song writing and more. She is returning to her home town to take part in this production as well as other exciting opportunities in Australia.
Musical Director is Matt Segrave, who is the Leader of Learning - Creative Arts at Marian Catholic College. During his time in Griffith he has been involved with several productions including the Theatre’s productions of Beauty and the Beast and Wicked, as well as several Marian College productions and Carols by Candlelight.  He is excited about putting together a team of musicians to provide a live score for The Wedding Singer. Any interested musicians are encouraged to contact the Theatre for information on how they can be involved.
Bonnie Owen will be undertaking the role of Stage Manager. Bonnie has been extensively involved with Griffith Regional Association of the Performing Arts  (GRAPA)  over many years and has until recently lead the Youth Theatre Drama Troupe at the Regional Theatre. She was Associate Director of the amazing production of Shakespeare’s Henry V at Leeton’s Roxy Theatre in 2021 and she brings her experience from working on many productions to this role. Assistant Stage Manager is Mahendi Raval, who has also been involved with GRAPA and worked on the Henry V Production alongside Bonnie.
The show will have the cast up and dancing, and leading the dancers as Choreographer is Teagan Cirillo. Teagan has experience in dancing, choreography and teaching dance in Sydney and Griffith, and is leading the choreography for Seussical this year as well. She is excited about this opportunity to work on such a fun show and helping people with some great 80’s dancing!
Ms Andreazza said the team will be joined by the Theatre’s own technical team.
“John Matkovic will be designing the lighting for the show, and Mark Macedone from Pristine Productions, who works closely with the theatre, will be sound designer. Our marketing and box office crew will also be playing important roles in bringing this show all together,” Ms Andreazza said.
“We are still looking for someone to take charge of the costumes and wardrobe for the show, think lots of 80’s colour as well as a set designer to work alongside the technical team at the Theatre. So, if you think you might be interested in either of these roles, please contact me at the Theatre.
“We are now also looking for performers who want to take part in the show. We know from our initial expressions of interest we received late last year that more than 50 people are already keen to take part. These people will be receiving the audition pack directly, but if there are other members of the community who would like to find out more and register for an audition, please contact the Theatre as soon as possible.”
Auditions will be held on 11 and 12 February, with cast announcements being made shortly after, ready to start rehearsals in late February.
“This show has eight leads providing the skill and heart of the show, while the ensemble has a large number of featured roles and includes a diverse range of age and skill levels, with actors, singers and dancers all having their moment to shine. I strongly encourage anyone keen on the performing arts to register their interest as a performer, musician, volunteer or crew member,” Ms Innes added.
“We are so excited to share this production with our community and can’t wait to see the talent we know is out there to make this production our biggest and best yet!” said Ms Andreazza.
