Griffin Green Housing Project Reaches A New Milestone

Wednesday, 25 Jan 2023

Griffin Green Housing Project Reaches A New Milestone Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council’s Griffin Green Project has reached a new milestone with 20 townhouses taking shape, civil works well underway and preparations for the remediation of Dave Taylor Park to commence in the coming weeks.
When complete, the $12M Griffin Green Affordable Housing Project will see 20 townhouses and more than 42 housing lots built around Dave Taylor Park, to help address the housing shortage and provide affordable housing options and a way to enter the competitive home ownership market in Griffith.
Griffin Green has been funded by the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund ($6M), Griffith City Council ($3M), and Argyle Housing ($3M).
Carolyn Doherty, Argyle Housing CEO said it was good to see this progress being made.
“At this stage we can see the 20 townhouses going up and additional civil construction, which includes things like storm water, sewer and pavements extended,” said Ms Doherty.
“We are extremely happy with the way things are progressing and looking forward to when we can bring the community together further under the Community Hub.”
Following the end of the school holidays, residents are advised Dave Taylor Park will be closed in preparation for a new playground and facilities, including public toilets, basketball court complete with lighting and a large open green space featuring an Indigenous Garden.
A new Community Hub will also be constructed by Argyle Housing. From Wednesday, 1 February 2023 the site will be fenced off and residents are urged to avoid the area.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said work on the playground had been planned to coincide with the return to school, to minimise disruption to local families using the park.
“We are looking at ways we can reduce the impact on the children using Dave Taylor Park,” said Councillor Curran.
“We acknowledge that the park is important to the community, that’s why we need to get this work underway soon so we can deliver something really worthwhile as soon as possible.
“The basketball court and playground equipment design is the result of community consultation undertaken around 12 months ago. I’m looking forward to seeing everything in place and young people enjoying the facilities.”
Argyle Housing and Council are investigating ways to provide local children with alternative activities while works are carried out on the playground and basketball court.
Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council would like to thank the community for their cooperation and understanding while these works are undertaken.
