Dump For Free Event A Success

Friday, 31 Mar 2023

Dump For Free Event A Success Local residents flocked to Griffith City Council landfill sites recently, dumping more than 1,400 loads of rubbish.
Despite the hot conditions, Council’s Dump for Free weekend held 18 and 19 March proved popular with 1,062 loads taken to the Tharbogang Waste Management Centre, and 410 loads taken to the Yenda Waste Management Centre.
Council’s Waste Operations Manager, John Roser, said the Dump for Free program continues to be a success.
“We are really pleased with the response. It shows that residents are keen to dispose of unwanted waste in the correct manner. We introduced this program back in 2012 and we are really happy that so many residents continue to participate,” said Mr Roser.
“The weather was pretty hot over the weekend so I am surprised so many took advantage of the weekend.
“I think it just goes to show that there is a real need in the community for the Dump for Free weekends.”
The Dump for Free weekend, which is held twice a year, is designed to help residents dispose of bulky waste and to combat illegal dumping throughout the Local Government Area.
Residents were allowed two standard loads per household enabling them to dispose of bulky goods, green waste and general material, without incurring the usual landfill fees.
Remember to take advantage of the free Community Recycling Centre (CRC) located at the Tharbogang Waste Management Facility.
“The CRC is a permanent drop-off centre for common household problem wastes that can’t be collected via council kerbside waste and recycling collection services,” said Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran.
“Griffith and surrounds householders can drop off problem wastes at the Tharbogang Waste Management Facility all year round, free of charge – take advantage of this great service at any time and help your local environment.”
