Wednesday, 29 Sep 2021

Councillor Christine Stead has been elected to serve in the role of Griffith City Council Deputy Mayor until the Local Government Elections scheduled for December 4, 2021.

The vote took place on Tuesday, 28 September, 2021 at the Ordinary Council Meeting, with Councillor Stead and Councillor Doug Curran nominating for the role.  An open vote (show of hands) produced a result of 8:4, with Cr Stead being proclaimed Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Stead said she is looking forward to serving as Deputy Mayor for the final months of this term of Council.

“It has been an absolute honour for me to represent this community over the last 17 years,” said Councillor Stead.

“I am passionate about Griffith and look forward to working with the Mayor and the rest of Council as we head towards the elections in December.”

Mayor John Dal Broi welcomed Councillor Stead’s election as Deputy Mayor, saying the two have always worked well together.

“I congratulate Councillor Stead, she has always been an enthusiastic member of Council,” he said.

“I’d also like to thank Councillor Croce who has performed very well in the role over the past year.”

The position of Deputy Mayor is elected by the members of the Council annually while the Mayor is popularly elected every four years.
