Council Acknowledges International Day Of People With Disability

Thursday, 30 Nov 2023

Council Acknowledges International Day Of People With Disability Griffith City Council will celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) by raising awareness and shining the spotlight on locals, helping to break down barriers.
IDPwD is a United Nations (UN) day observed internationally on 3 December. It aims to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.
The 2023 theme for IDPwD asks everyone to work together to make the world better and fairer for people with disability.
Chair of Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Committee, Councillor, Shari Blumer, said this was an opportunity to hear from residents about how they feel.
“Our Committee is committed to helping break down barriers and promote disability inclusion,” Councillor Blumer said.
“We meet monthly and are always happy to hear from members of the public who have suggestions on how we can make Griffith a more accessible community.
“Just a few of the things we’ve done this year to contribute to this is: Involvement in the Transport for NSW 16 Cities Service Improvement Program, implementing the Bins4Blokes initiative, Communication Boards for local parks, advocating for more adult change facilities and a sensory session for the Glow roller disco.
“Keep an eye out on social media to hear how Griffith people feel about IDPwD.”
