Community Garden Upgrade To Don Best Park
The Her Way 2680 project, in collaboration with Griffith Soroptimists, is excited to announce the commencement of the Don Best Park upgrade. Don Best Park is located at the end of Ulong Street, off from Coolah Street.
This transformative project, born out of extensive community co-design efforts, aims to enhance safety and inclusivity while providing enriching recreational opportunities for all residents of Griffith, but particularly residents of Coolah, Bromfield Streets and Couch Road.
At the heart of the Don Best Park upgrade is the integration of a community garden component, reflecting the desires and aspirations of local residents. This addition not only promotes green spaces but also fosters community engagement and walking and cycling connections.
Griffith Soroptimists have joined forces with Griffith City Council to support this endeavour, emphasising their shared commitment to creating safer and more welcoming environments for all members of the community.
Libby Trembath, President of Soroptimist Griffith has expressed her enthusiasm, stating "Soroptimist International Griffith is excited to be collaborating with the Griffith City Council’s Her Way 2680 team in championing the Community Gathering Space/Gardens at the Don Best Park site. Our vision is to create and foster an inclusive space, where community feel safely connected and can share time and skills together in the garden area."
The project is part of the Safer Cities: Her Way program, a collaborative partnership between Transport for NSW and Council that aims to help improve perceptions of safety in our cities and towns, particularly for women, girls and gender diverse people.
The upgraded park will feature a range of amenities designed for community enjoyment and relaxation. These include a shelter, BBQ area with seating, a bubbler for hydration, and landscaped areas to promote tranquillity and beauty, accessible by active transport and in close proximity to public transport.
Construction work has already commenced and is progressing steadily, with completion expected in the coming months. Once finished, the revitalised Don Best Park will reflect the power of collaboration and community-driven initiatives.
