Clb3x3 Basketball Heads To Griffith In May
Monday, 12 Apr 2021An event aimed at all ages & all abilities, the sport of 3X3 basketball is a great way for people from all over the area to get involved and have some fun. CLB3x3 and Griffith City
Council Tourism have partnered to bring the outdoor 3x3 set up to the region with a 3 day event that will combine Elite sport with grassroots to bring you a festival of 3X3 action along
with pre-registered games and free for all participation with their 3 point shoot outs, slam dunk contests and mini clinics. This event will take place in Visitor Information Centre Car
Park, Corner Jondaryan Avenue & Banna Avenue and will feature as a main event at Street Scapes Griffith, a new festival in May activating the Griffith CBD.
“We have been traveling around Australia now since 2014, aligning ourselves with key community organisers, councils, event owners and local sporting organisations to provide
Junior and Open players with a 3X3 competition emerged in a festive and safe environment for families to attend (as spectators) for free. Councils and community stakeholders play a big part in what we do and we are very appreciative of the support we have received so far. We have seen a real growth over the last five years in 3X3 and now it is great to see a growth in the spectators that come and enjoy “the show” as well.” said General Manager of Champions League Basketball Matt Hollard. 3X3 will appear as an Olympic discipline this year for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics with our own Australian Open’s female team into the qualifiers starring local Victorian, SA & ACT players such as Rebecca Cole (WNBL Southside Flyers Dandenong), Maddie Garrick (exWNBL Boomers, currently playing for Botas SK Turkey), Keely Froling (WNBL Canberra
Capitals), Kelsey Griffin (WNBL Canberra Capitals) & Lauren Nicholson (WNBL Adelaide Lightening) and is replacing 5on5 in all future Commonwealth Games. This is a huge opportunity for past, current and future basketball players to experience another pathway in which they can play at a junior or elite level for their country some day.
3X3 is simple and flexible enough to be played anywhere and by anyone. All you need is a hoop, a half-court and six players. The event weekend provides a terrific chance to register with a few mates and give the sport a try for the very first time.
"We are really excited to host CLB3x3 for the first time during Street Scapes this May. After seeing the event grow so much in Wagga Wagga over the last few years, we can't wait to
see how this event can help us build Sports Tourism in Griffith." "Make sure you come down to the Visitor Centre car park to check out the pop-up court and to support this new event. We would love to see a variety of ages and abilities joining in over the weekend" said Tourism Manager, Mirella Guidolin.
Players can register to compete in a range of competitions over the weekend from a Corporate Social Night held on Friday 14th May from 6pm onwards, (a great way to network and keep fit) or as an Opens division player on Saturday 15th May from 2pm onwards and lastly as a Juniors player U13’s to U18’s on Sunday 16th May from 10am for their chance to win great prizes and world ranking points….or you might just want to come along as a spectator and enjoy the atmosphere and see the rising talent come out on top during the Finals each day.
Registrations start at $120 per team for the Juniors, $150 per team for the Open’s and $150 for the Social Corporate Cup. Players who register will have an official FIBA profile for their country and can see their
points go live under their profile after the event and receive a ranking for their country. Players are required to set up their own profile via the https://play.fiba3x3.com/ and using the same website they can then register a team of 3-4 players or simply head to www.clb3x3.com/events and search for “Griffith” to find your category.
**Teams will play a min of 3 pool games plus finals. For more information about 3x3, the event and/or to register a team, visit www.clb3x3.com/events
