The new 50m pool and facilities at Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre was finalised and opened on 14 February 2021.

The project, part of the $26.5M Sports Precinct funded by Building Better Regions Fund (Australian Government), Regional Sports Infrastructure Fund (NSW Government), and Griffith City Council, features the construction of a 50m pool, new change rooms and toilets, accessibility ramp into the pool, and a new pump room to accommodate the needs of the new infrastructure.

The 50m Pool at Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre was officially opened on Wednesday by The Hon. Sussan Ley, MP, Member for Farrer, Minister for the Environment, Ms Steph Cooke, MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier and Councillor John Dal Broi Mayor for the City of Griffith.

Key points on the 50M Pool Development 

• Council has appointed Altus Group as the Project Managers for the development
• Key consultancy services have been secured. This includes: 
  • Building Certification
  • Civil Engineering
  • Aquatic Engineering
  • Landscaping, and
  • Geotechnical services
     
• The final Tender specifications have been prepared with the Tender for the Design & Construction of the 50M Pool, Amenities, Landscaping and Plant room expected to be advertised in January 2020
• Trees have been removed at the site to facilitate the construction of the new facility 
• Demolition of the old skate park site is scheduled for first quarter of 2020. This is required to use the area for the construction of the pool and grounds
• Council anticipates that the design of the pool and associated works will be completed by June or July 2020, with construction to commence by July 2020.

Griffith City Council is calling on the community to have their say on the Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre (GRALC) Redevelopment Project by participating in an online survey.

Director Business, Cultural and Financial Services Max Turner said the aim of the survey is to better understand what the community would like to see as part of the funding.

“The GRALC redevelopment forms part of the $24.8M Griffith Regional Sports Precinct funding, with $7M dedicated to the swimming complex,” said Mr Turner.

“A draft aspirational plan has been developed for any potential features the community may desire in the future, however the Stage One works are what is needed to be delivered for the funding.

“Council would like community feedback to inform the design and construction of the 50M pool, amenities extension, plant room, and landscaping.”

The community is also invited to attend a community forum to be held at Griffith City Library on Thursday 24 October 2019, starting at 5.30pm.
