Construct a Citrus Sculpture
SEE HOW A CITRUS SCULPTURE IS CONCTRUCTED
Local community groups and businesses can apply to be involved by submitting an application form and detailed sketch to the Spring Fest Working Group. Once the design is approved through the Working Group, each applicant is responsible for engaging with an appropriate manufacturer to build the frame prior to the festival.
Leading up to Griffith Spring Fest, all groups are given the specially made and treated rubber bands that protect the citrus throughout the two weeks. Groups are encouraged to attach the bands to the frames prior to arriving on site for Construction Day, to minimise time spent on the day.
On Construction Day, approximately 100,000 oranges are delivered to Banna Avenue and over 700 volunteers arrive to Banna Avenue from sunrise to deliver their sculpture by trailer, ute, truck or crane... and then the fun begins!
The team from Southern Cross Austereo show you how it's done with their iconic sculpture of headphones.
