NEW GRIFFITH DEPUTY MAYOR ELECTED

Councillor Doug Curran has been elected as Griffith’s deputy mayor for the next 12 months.

The vote took place on Tuesday, 25 September, 2018 at the ordinary council meeting.

Councillor Currran, Councillor Dino Zappacosta and Councillor Anne Napoli nominated for the role, with Cr Curran eventually winning six votes to four following distribution of preferences.

Cr Curran said he looks forward to serving as deputy mayor and will work hard to achieve great things for the broader Griffith community.

“I would like to thank the Councillors for this opportunity and I look forward to the next 12 months working to support the Mayor to bring about positive outcomes for our city,” Cr Curran said.

Mayor John Dal Broi congratulated Cr Curran on his appointment and thanked former deputy mayor, Councillor Dino Zappacosta for his service and assistance over the past 2 years.

“Councillor Curran and I have worked together well in the past. We now have another 12 months to work hard on achieving some significant goals for our city,” Mayor Dal Broi said.

The position of Deputy Mayor is elected by the members of the Council annually while the Mayor is popularly elected every four years.
