INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED TAIKOZ TO DRUM UP A STORM AT GRIFFITH REGIONAL THEATRE

Internationally acclaimed Taikoz will bring their dynamic traditional Japanese music to Griffith Regional Theatre for a very special hands-on concert experience for schools and the general public on Friday, 9 November at 11am.

In constant demand all over the world, this Sydney-based performance group specialising in the art of taiko - Japanese drums – Taikoz, has a reputation for vibrant performances that couple explosive energy and extreme dynamism with refinement and grace.

The concert program includes traditional Japanese music and drumming, contemporary Japanese compositions, and their own original works.

Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Raina Savage said, “We are thrilled to have Taikoz in Griffith where we can make their wonderful school concert available to students from across the region as well as to the general public.”

Taikoz regularly perform in Australia's finest concert halls, as well leading theatres worldwide including Japan, Paris, Bangkok, Taiwan, Abu Dhabi, and the USA,” Ms Savage said.

“Musica Viva’s wonderful music in schools program allows Taikoz to take the joy of music and rhythm to students across the country.

“We wanted to make sure that audiences in the Western Riverina could experience this fabulous musical experience.”

Taikoz concerts are totally engrossing because they are seen, heard and felt. The audience literally become sounding boards, vibrating along with the energy coming from the stage.

Taiko is best appreciated through the experience of playing, so it is no surprise that hands-on participation by members of the audience is a feature of Taikoz’ concerts. Playing the big drums give each participant a chance to ‘feel’ the taiko, with its rhythm and movements, opening up new possibilities for musical expression.

The whole audience can join in the joyful music making by chanting ‘kakegoe’ or voice cues and asking questions is always encouraged.

Taikoz concerts not only introduce students to the instruments and music, but also include the fascinating historical and cultural background, including the place of taiko in contemporary, Australian music.

Taikoz perform at Griffith Regional Theatre on Friday, 9 November at 11am.

They will also be performing at Griffith Regional Theatre’s Season 2019 Launch on Friday, 9 November from 6pm.

Tickets are $10 students and $15 adults. Tickets can be purchased from the Box Office, by calling 6962 8444 or visit www.griffithregionaltheatre.com.au
