TALENTED YOUNG ACTORS MAKE A SCENE AT GRIFFITH REGIONAL THEATRE
Griffith’s talented young actors will take to the stage to ‘make a scene’ in five original, new plays by local playwright Donatella Parise at Griffith Regional Theatre on Wednesday 24 October at 7pm.
High school students from Griffith Regional Theatre’s Senior Youth Theatre Group have been working with local actor and drama teacher Bonnie Owen since 2017, learning the art of performance, covering a range of theatre styles, group and solo work, script writing, improv and theatre games.
By 2018 a core group of dedicated thespians had formed, with the skills and passion to turn their theatre practice into performance.
Ms Owen is herself a product of the Griffith youth drama scene, performing in local musicals and theatre productions since the age of 15, and now a respected actor and director with local theatre company Griffith Regional Association of the Performing Arts (GRAPA).
Ms Owen said, “This is an amazing group of young people. They are all passionate about performance, they work really hard, and they get on well together. So we really wanted to offer them the chance to put all that effort and energy into a performance outcome.”
Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Raina Savage said, ‘It is a real priority for us to promote and develop young local artists, and with so much talent and enthusiasm in the group it was a no-brainer to convert that into an opportunity to showcase the group, and provide some fantastic, local entertainment as well.”
“We are extremely lucky to have a playwright of the calibre of Donatella Parise in town, and it has been my ambition for some time to premier some of her original material in the Theatre,” Ms Savage said.
“When I saw her great work on a film project with local teenagers, we had found a perfect fit to create the original new scripts we needed.”
Four of the new scripts will be performed by the Theatre’s drama troupe, and one script will be performed by Ms Parise’s own acting students.
Griffith Regional Theatre runs two weekly youth drama groups: Junior Troupe (for primary school students) on Monday afternoons; and Senior Troupe (high school age) on Wednesdays.
Make a Scene is at Griffith Regional Theatre on Wednesday, 24 October at 7pm.
Tickets are Adults $10, Under 18 years $5 and can be purchased from the Box Office, by calling 6962 8444 or visit www.griffithregionaltheatre.com.au
