Stage One of the Yambil Street redevelopment has commenced in Griffith.

The upgrade will inject new life into Yambil Street, improving the streetscape, making shops easier to access and creating a more sustainable city centre for the future.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi said he is happy to see the start of the much-needed facelift for Yambil Street, which includes new footpaths, landscaping, seating and garbage bins.

“We recognise Yambil Street as a high priority location and Council is delighted to have this work underway as part of the wider CBD Strategy,” Councillor Dal Broi said.

“These works are an important first step in the wider plan of overall improvements.”

Work commenced on Wednesday, 3 October 2018 on the south side of the street and will continue until the end of November when work will cease over the busy Christmas period to allow businesses to trade as normal.

Construction will recommence mid-January, with Stage One expected to be complete in time for Easter 2019.

“We are doing everything we can to minimise the disruption and keep Yambil Street open for businesses and shoppers,” Cr Dal Broi said.

“This is an important project that will renew the street and will have major benefits for residents, workers, visitors and local businesses.”

Parking will be limited, however additional parking is available on the top level of the Griffith Exies Club carpark. During construction there will be no timed parking in Yambil Street and some detours will be in place.

All works are subject to weather, and Council will continue to keep businesses and the community informed as works progress.

Once Stage One has been completed, Council plans to commence developing the middle and top blocks.
