SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM JAZZ ORCHESTRA CRUISES INTO GRIFFITH
Griffith Regional Theatre has teamed up with the brand new Murrumbidgee Regional Conservatorium of Music (MRCM) to bring one of Australia’s most celebrated jazz ensembles - the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra – to Griffith for a smooth Saturday session on 22 September 2018 at 3pm.
Under Artistic Director David Theak, the Sydney Con Jazz Orchestra (CJO) is hitting the road and the stages of Australia, providing the next generation of the nation’s most talented young musicians with the experience to develop their improvisation and technical sophistication.
Featuring five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, guitar, piano, bass and drums, the CJO showcases many of Sydney’s finest young improvisers who have dominated Australia’s jazz prizes and accolades.
Manager of Griffith Regional Theatre, Raina Savage said, “We are really excited about this collaboration with MRCM which allows us to present this unique musical experience to our Griffith audience.
“Since the early 70s, the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra has boasted an alumni of many of the leading lights in Australian Jazz. These amazing young players have risen to meet that challenge with a level of sophistication normally reserved for professional Jazz,” Ms Savage said.
“This will be an afternoon of super cool music, with the bar open from 2pm and music by local students of the MRCM in the foyer, before the main stage show at 3pm.”
President of MRCM Lachlan Pendlebury said, “This performance features a fantastic jazz program with the music of Jim McNeely, Bert Joris, Maria Schneider, Bob Brookmeyer and Australian guitarist James Muller. The Sydney Con Jazz Orchestra offers incredible repertoire, outstanding ensemble playing and a who’s who of the next generation of Australian Jazz.”
”Presenting young musicians of this calibre to aspiring music students in Griffith introduces them to a whole new musical genre, and shows them the heights they can aspire to reach,” Mr Pendlebury said.
Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra is at Griffith Regional Theatre at 3pm on Saturday 22 September. Bar open and live music in the foyer from 2pm.
