Murrumbidgee Irrigation's core business is water distribution to the MIA.

Murrumbidgee Irrigation  one of the largest private irrigation companies in Australia serving over 3,200 landholdings owned by over 2,500 customers. Our core business is water management and related services. We provide irrigation water, drainage and environmental services to the region known as the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) - one of the most diverse and productive regions in Australia. The MIA, which forms part of the Murrray-Darling Basin covers an area of 660,000 ha of which an average of 170,000 ha is irrigated. The MIA is home to over 50,000 people with the majority of jobs tied inextricably to the water we supply to farms and industry.

Established in 1912 following the commissioning of Burrinjuck Dam in the Snowy Mountains, the MIA was conceived by the government of the day as a purpose-built scheme, designed to feed and provide employment opportunities for a growing nation. The  original vision for the MIA is as important today as it was 100 years ago. In 1999 the NSW Government relinquished ownership of the MIA (and Districts) and we now operate as an unlisted public company (limited by shares) owned by the irrigators we supply.

NSW State Water controls water released from Burrinjuck and Blowering Dams into the Murrumbidgee River. We are licensed by the NSW Government to divert water from the river system and deliver it to our customers. There are two main offtakes within the system of which the Main Canal diverts 6,600 ML/day and the Sturt Canal 2,200 ML/day.

Murrumbidgee Irrigation Ltd has a second office at 2 Dunn Avenue, Leeton, NSW, 2705.
